A 699-foot (204-meter) long mega yacht, it has been created by Perpaolo Lazzarini and is called Colossea. It is a one-of-a-kind large sea vessel equipped with a detachable airship superstructure.
The 699-foot-long design pays homage to the airship N1, later renamed Norge, which completed the first trip to the North Pole in 1926.
Lazzarini says: "In the yacht Colossea, the airship redefines its iconic design with today's materials and technologies, offering the same measurements of the 1924 model with upgraded materials, layout and propulsion"
The Colossea features an airship that can launch adventures independent of the yacht's main structure.
When the captain decides it's time to fly, the yacht follows the procedures to unlock the electromagnetic blocks that hold the airship in place and unhook the winches to release the airship's lift.
The aircraft, which has a payload capacity of 10,000 kg, can accommodate up to 24 passengers, plus ten crew members.
Lazzarini designed the project with sustainability in mind, ensuring the airship would be powered by liquid hydrogen (LH2).
LH2 hopes to enable the flying craft to reach an estimated top speed of nearly 90 knots (165 km/h). However, the yacht will be powered by three HTS engines, which could reach a top speed of 22 knots (40 km/h).
The company says the aircraft will be powered by eight electric motors in line to meet the zero-emission target of 2050. The ship was built using carbon fiber on both the interior and exterior surfaces. The aircraft's upper structure was shaped to mimic the shape of the blimp, which serves as a designated area for takeoff and landing.
The yacht was also designed to have 22 guest suites and multiple decks with swimming pools aft, allowing a total capacity of up to 44 guests and 20 crew members. The project is still in the ideology and planning stage. The cost of its construction is estimated at approximately 788 million!
