“The Sunreef 80 Eco proves sustainable yachts do not need to compromise on luxury”
The Sunreef 80 Eco sailing catamaran is a fully autonomous craft, using revolutionary green tech for fuel-free cruising in total silence and luxury. To make it clear, what means by autonomous, Sunreef says the catamaran can sail for days, weeks or even months without burning a single drop of fossil fuel – enough to cross an ocean. The existence of sails is the decisive factor in achieving autonomy.
Innovative Sustainability Technologies
The Sunreef 80 Eco sail range includes a 200m² mainsail, 155m² Genoa, 340m² Gennaker and 70m² Stainsail. While under sail, the yacht continuously produces green energy, thanks to its advanced hydro-generation system. Built by Sunreef Yachts, the catamaran's carbon fiber mast is fitted with integrated composite solar panels.
Hydrogenation – harvesting energy from water passing through the hull as the boat sails – is not new and has been in small sailing yachts and ocean giants like the Black Pearl for more than a decade. But it's the clever integration of this system that sets Sunreef apart. The propellers turn the propshaft backwards, turning the 180kW electric motors so they act like giant alternators. "The energy obtained is used to power both propulsion and household appliances," says Francis Lapp (Founder and CEO of Sunreef Yachts).
Solar panels are a major contributor to the renewable energy arsenal and Sunreef has pioneered a striking new approach by integrating solar cells into almost every surface of the hull, superstructure and mast. "On a sunny day, the owner of the Sunreef 80 Eco doesn't need to use a generator at all," adds Lapp.
Below the main deck, the yacht's battery bank consists of custom-engineered batteries combining light weight with outstanding efficiency. The Sunreef 80 Eco's air conditioning is the lightest and most efficient in the marine industry.
Interior Design
The Sunreef 80 Eco can accommodate up to eight guests on board. The starboard hull of the catamaran hosts a luxurious and bright master suite, equipped with a double bed, wardrobe, pop-up TV, sofa and desk. The spacious en-suite bathroom follows the contemporary style of the master cabin.
The custom layout also includes a large VIP cabin in the middle section of the portside hull as well as two identical guest cabins in the bow portion of each hull. Portside off the main deck, the yacht’s galley provides plenty of storage options and is fully-equipped with restaurant quality amenities.
Exterior
The Sunreef 80 Eco features an excellent combination of outdoor and indoor areas that flow easily into each other. The bridge deck and superstructure design offer a superior level of comfort on board, while the generous use of teak and classy lines underline modern styling with a classic edge.
With a completely fresh superstructure concept, the Sunreef 80 gets a saloon design with great customization possibilities. A huge, central sunroom with panoramic views and endless layout possibilities opens onto the bow veranda and cockpit.
The bow benefits from a comfortable saloon, well protected from sun and wind. At the rear, the saloon merges with the generous cockpit which is extended by a large aft platform. All areas together form a single environment, where flexibility prevails.
While housing the main wheelhouse, the 54m² flybridge is definitely dedicated to leisure with a Jacuzzi, fully equipped wet bar, BBQ and large sunbeds.
