Vanquish makes a world premiere with the launch of the VQ55 Sports Line, the first of its size to be deployed in a wind tunnel. The VQ55 was unveiled at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last month. The very fast 55ft sports yacht, from Vanquish, is the new big sister of the VQ40 in the Vanquish Sports Line. Even with the extra 15 feet, the VQ55 has the same bold profile that stands out. The design of the model is due to the Dutch designer Guido de Groot.
The VQ55 Sports Line is a stunning center console yacht with carbon-reinforced fiberglass hull. The secret to the VQ55 Sports Line's speed, says Tom Steenjes, CEO of Vanquish, is partly due to its stepped hull design, which adds lift and reduces drag.
Space configuration
The VQ55, with a total length of 17.25m. and beam 4.9m. offers transportation for eighteen people, with seating and comfortable sunbathing areas from bow to stern.
The improved interior space offers a high level of comfort as well as the ability to make long-distance journeys. With two spacious cabins below decks, a practical galley on deck with fridge, sink and wine cooler.
Excellent perfomance
The VQ55 is available in two versions depending on the desired performance. With 600 hp Mercury outboards (V12), the speed can reach up to 70 knots. Also available with twin 1200hp Nanni N16 inboard diesels (V8) and waterjet, giving a suitable top speed of 50 knots. The VQ55 Sports Line is the fastest yacht in its class. To regulate turbulence in the cockpit at high speed, the sides of the VQ55 are equipped with adjustable vents.
Specifically, designer Guido de Groot and Vanquish engineers worked to upscale the VQ40 into a VQ55, devising an impressive center console boat. Twin 1200hp diesels with waterjets favor navigating 50+ knot waves and approaching very shallow water. In addition, water jets are also known to be the safest propulsion system for swimmers. At the same time, Vanquish developers are creating the outboard version with a stepped hull, which is being developed mainly for the US and Middle East markets. This fact has contributed to the development of the capabilities of the Veloce model with four or five Mercury V12 600hp outboards, in which the speed will be over 70 knots!
“It's a crowded market that the VQ55 is entering,” says Steenjes. "But I think it's our Dutch engineering, Dutch quality and craftsmanship that sets us apart."
There is no other lifestyle sports yacht of this size capable of surpassing the speed of the VQ55.
