German luxury yacht builder TYDE, in collaboration with BMW, presented THE OPEN, the world's largest foiling motor yacht, in a grand debut held in Dubai. Following the launch of the electric boat THE ICON in May 2023, THE OPEN follows, which will be built by Autumn 2024.
The Open is equipped with hydrofoils adapted from racing yachts that significantly reduce energy consumption. Indeed, the installation saves nearly 80 percent of energy, according to the design team. Essentially, foils allow the boat to glide over the water with minimal drag, as well as emissions. THE OPEN outperforms conventional day yachts that consume more than 150 liters of fossil fuel per hour.
The full-surface solar roof not only ensures sustainable idle time, but also underlines TYDE's commitment to green innovation, setting new standards for the marine industry.
With a battery capacity of 400 kWh and two 100 kW electric motors, she reaches a maximum speed of 30 knots and cruises comfortably at 25 knots, offering a range of 50 nautical miles at this rate.
Stretching 14.8 meters in length and 4.5 meters in width, she features a flush deck with a two-seater helm station, a sheltered galley with a spacious seating area, a double sunbed at the stern, and a generous relaxation area on the foredeck.
THE OPEN features the prismatic cabin design with a spacious sleeping area, large TV screen, functional work table, ample storage space and a fully equipped bathroom. The luxurious interior is filled with natural light and offers a modern atmosphere and a generous sense of space.
"With the Icon, we have shown how elegant and luxurious sustainable mobility on the water can be," said MD and co-founder of Tyde, Christoph Ballin. "The continuation of the cooperation with BMW is now fueling the launch into another segment. The new model brings future-orientated mobility to the day yacht segment."
